From the Interviews to the Insights

UnSee Update #3 // July 2024

Words by: Riccardo Torta

We are reaching the end of July, so it’s time for another UnSee update!

After finishing the round of interviews with expert practitioners, we started collecting insights and making sense all together of what we had learned.
This process saw all team members analysing several interviews through the same frame [fig. 1], which reflected the questions used to engage the participants.

This frame focused on four macro areas of inquiry:

1. understanding the needs of practitioners when adopting new design methodologies, 2. visualising the macro steps in each design process, 3. comprehending the main differences from the linear, design thinking framework, and finally, 4. understanding how these transformative practices impact the role of the designer.

Each research team member then extracted the key insights from their assigned interviews and got ready to share them with the whole group. Such sharing culminated in a workshop [fig. 2] where we were able to connect and start tracing some emerging transformative patterns concerning the integration of systemic and future-oriented perspectives in the service design process.

This process fed the early reflections made at the beginning of the research back in March, which contributed to delineating already three transformative patterns. These early results *spoiler* will be presented in an upcoming publication in the next future.

In the next upcoming month, besides some well-deserved holiday, we will work to synthesise the results and understand the knowledge gaps to cover with a new round of interviews.

Keep reading this blog to stay up to date with the new phases of the research.

See you soon!
